An interesting thing about this book series is that while it's being published serially, it's also scheduled like a TV show - the books are all done, and just being published six months apart. So you can eagerly read one book (or now two, since this is the second), and schedule in your consumption of the rest.

A sequel to 'Annihilation', this novel picks up the story about Area X from the viewpoint of 'Control', a government operative sent in to the Southern Reach office to clean up the chaos after the last expedition. We learn a bunch of new things about the previous book, and it introduces new twists that rewrite the story about what was going on in Book 1.

It's got a different feel and template; while the first book felt like a horror-version of a mystery exploration (like the tv show LOST), this is more like a horror-version of a spy novel.
