Kristin Lavransdatter I: The Wreath

I've been meaning to read this, Sigrid Unset's epic, for a while. It was great! I was surprised at how emotionally true-to-life it is, and just delighted by some very deft shifts in perspective in the last third of the book. Of course, while the story is ostensibly headstrong Kristin's romance with Erlend, he's such a tool that you're rooting for Kristin to do ANYTHING but marry this guy. I have no idea what's going to happen in the next two books.

It’s a good thing when you don’t dare do something if you don’t think it’s right. But it’s not good when you think something’s not right because you don’t dare do it.
