Cabinet of Wonders
A fun YA historical/magical thing, Trudy and I read it as a bedtime book. It's fascinating how a book can zip along pretty quickly, but just draaaag when you read it out loud. I'm no great writer, but I have been reading out loud for ~30 minutes a day for the last 12 years. These sentences are so heavy! They're just monotonous, the same thing rythym and structure, over and over and over. Really surprisingly difficult to stay focused on it, even though the characters are fine and the story is interesting! And I even had the added benefit of visiting it's setting and being familiar with the big Prague landmarks it references.
But for all that, Trudy and I enjoyed it enough that we'll probably pick up book 2. But man, I do not look forward to actually SAYING this book.
