The passage about 'no generation can free the next' reminded me so much of Philip Larkin's This Be the Verse!

Reread this because it was covered on Melvin Bragg's In Our Time podcast. The Anne Carson translation was so impactful, it was interesting to go back and compare this translation with that one.
