A Burning

I don't usually read books that are so popular right when they are very popular, but I had a recommendation for this book (from where?) that it was a really compelling and informative slice of life in modern India. Is that true? I don't know! But it's very well done, a pretty gripping if a little harrowing plot. It cycles through three characters: Jivan, a young woman from a slum who is falsely accused of terrorism, her neighbor Lovely who is an aspiring actress and hijra, and PT Sir, Jivan's former teacher. It was really interesting reading but ultimately SUCH a bummer.
