The Power of Habit
This is firmly in the roll-my-eyes category of business books but man, I found it really interesting! Suffers from the same 'should've been a blog post' problem as most in its genre, but still a really compelling argument for the power of habits. Notably:
- how habits that seem dangerously close to cognitive tasks can be learned even without conscious awareness
- how to think of a habit as a combination fo a cue, routine, and reward
- how to think about swapping those components - you can build or break a habit by keeping the cue and reward the same but swap a destructive routine for a positive one
- an argument that a belief in the possibility of change (eg, expressed in AA as the Higher Power) is critical to actually making change
