What also surprised me is just how tedious this book was! I don't mind, really, but man, not a zippy read.

I was desperate for an audiobook and found this in the library's collection. As someone who is sort of interested in personal finance, the lessons of this book are really out in the air now - I thought I definitely knew what this book was about. And I did! Mostly! The basic principles: get a good job or start a business, live frugally, and you will amass wealth. There are more people than you think who do this, and they don't look like rich people because they don't spend their money.
What was surprising was the big emphasis on not giving your kids money, or as they call it, economic outpatient care. I think everybody's familiar with the concept of the failson, but these guys draw a direct causal line from cash payments to your children to failsonhood. That surprised me!
