Count Belisarius

Apparently the whale that Belisarius hunts was REAL!

Stuffy but interesting historical novel set in the ~500s in the byzantine empire. I honestly liked it but mostly for its content, not as a piece of writing. But it's full of historical events that I just had no idea about, and every twenty pages there was something I had to google to find out if it was real. And it always was! Like, huge earthquakes that leveled cities! Mass riots based on chariot teams with dumb names like 'The Blues' and 'The Greens'!
